Blumenmotive und florale Inspirationen nehme ich als eine der herausragend wichtigen Modeerscheinungen in dieser Saison Herbst Winter 2019 wahr. Bei einem derart starken Trend drängt sich mir die Frage auf, weshalb gerade jetzt so viele und auch qualitativ so gute florale Motive in der internationalen Designszene zu finden sind.

Lassen wir Konnotationen eines Bedürfnisses nach Natur und einer sauberen Umwelt, oder nach Freizeit und Entspannung wie auf einem Hawaiihemd links liegen.

Spannend erscheint mir der Blick zurück in die Historie der Malerei, genau in die niederländische Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts. Aktuelle Blumenmotive aus vielen Designerkollektion von Dries van Noten, über Off_White bis hin zu Givenchy scheinen mir von ihrer Stilistik, aber auch von ihrer Emotion her betrachtet, eine gewisse ästhetische Verwandtschaft mit Motiven der niederländischen Malerei zu haben.

Dienen die Motive als Feigenblatt für eine gewisse Freude am Luxus und am Prunk, wie in der niederländischen Malerei?

Betrachten wir dazu Ambrosius Bosschaert, einen der herausragenden Blumenstillleben-Maler seiner Zeit.

Blumenarrangements vereinen mehrere Aspekte, die in abgewandelter Form auch für die anderen Stilllebengattungen gelten. Von Bedeutung ist beispielsweise, welche Blumen in welcher Kombination angeordnet sind. Eine der Kernbotschaften ist die Frage, ob die abgebildeten Blumen überhaupt zur selben Zeit in Blüte stehen können. Wenn ja, deuten sie auf die Allegorie einer bestimmten Jahreszeit. Wenn nein, deuten sie auf einen utopischen Zustand der Welt, womit gemeinhin das Paradies gemeint ist. Exotische Blumen und Früchte deuten entweder auf Reichtum und Luxus im Sinne von Raritäten,  oder auf weitreichende Handelsbeziehungen in ferne Länder, im Sinne einer globalisierten Welt.

Erzählen uns also florale Motive aus aktuellen Kollektionen von einer Utopie unserer Gesellschaft? Lassen sie uns ein Paradies für uns Menschen erahnen? Oder dienen die Motive im Sinne eines Statussymbols der Zurschaustellung von Reichtum?

Da Mode im unscharfen Bereich agiert, bleibt es uns überlassen, ob wir unseren Luxus nach außen stellen wollen, oder auf die Utopie einer paradiesischen Gesellschaft anspielen wollen.

Floral motifs and floral inspirations I perceive as one of the outstandingly important trends this season Fall Winter 2019 true. With such a strong trend the question arises, why so many and also qualitatively good floral motifs can be found in the international design scene.

Let’s leave aside connotations of a need for eco and nature, or for leisure and relaxation as on a Hawaiian shirt.

It seems to me exciting to go back to the history of painting, to the Dutch painting of the 17th century. Current floral motifs from many designer collections by Dries van Noten, from Off_White to Givenchy seem to me to have a certain aesthetic similarity to Dutch painting as far as stylistics and emotion are concerned.

Do the motifs serve as a fig leaf for a certain pleasure in luxury and splendor, as in Dutch painting?

Consider Ambrosius Bosschaert, one of the most outstanding flower still life painters of his time.

Floral arrangements combine several aspects that apply in a modified form to the other types of still lifes. Of importance, for example, which flowers are arranged in which combination. One of the key messages is the question of whether the pictured flowers can bloom at all at the same time. If so, they point to the allegory of a particular season. If not, they point to a state of the world, which is commonly called paradise. Exotic flowers and fruits indicate either wealth and luxury in the sense of rarities, or far-reaching trade relations with distant countries, in the sense of a globalized world.

So do floral motifs from current collections tell us about a utopia of our society? Let us guess a paradise for us humans? Or are the motifs in the sense of a status symbol of the display of wealth?

As fashion operates in the blurred area, it is up to us whether we want to put our love for luxury on the outside, or to allude to the utopia of a paradise society.
